Short biography
In his practice, Patrick Mitchell repeatedly draws and paints subjects that he knows well and sees daily, acknowledging that the subject is constantly changing, as is he, with his approach and perception of reality.
He is interested in learning how to ‘navigate’ the structure of a form in a way that speaks of the vitality of momentary experience.
Although small, each of his drawings and paintings is the end result of an incredibly intense experience, and comes after many, many preceding attempts. He finds it difficult to get something that feels worth keeping, like a revelation, like a moment.
Patrick completed a BA in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2022; and completed an MA in Drawing also at Duncan of Jordanstone in 2023. This year he was longlisted for the Jacksons Art Prize.
