About the Artist
For a number of years, my practice has been to draw from life, working with the model in the studio through numerous sessions and layers. Recently, I’ve found a way of working online, through necessity for obvious reasons. I was resistant at first, how could I replicate three dimensions from a flat screen? But I found a way to work with this by seeing the flat screen for what it was, a frame around an image, like a still from a film or play, and to view the model as a character within this scene. This opened up lots of new possibilities. Since the world has opened up again, I have returned to face-to-face drawing, while continuing to work with selected models online. The drawings build their own narratives over time, performers about to go on stage, figures deep in thought, actors gripped by the intensity of the character.
