Liz Maclarty Jones

Biography

I studied Fine Art at Leeds University. After graduating, I became a Studio Potter and then went on to study for an MA Industrial Ceramics and an MBA.  After working in the ceramics industry as Senior Designer for Royal Doulton and Head Designer and Design Manager for Minton, I moved to academia as Head of Taught Postgraduate Design at Northumbria University.

Six years ago, after a diverse international career, I came full circle and returned to my Fine Art roots — painting full time. The more I paint, the more I see the disparate influences of my life

returning and combining in the most surprising ways, fuelling new bodies of work.

Working from en plein air studies, I present paintings from a collection of abstract and semi representational work based on the stunning Scottish Borders and East Lothian coastline and harbours.

Golf

As a golfer, I specialise in painting links golf courses. My passion is to capture seaside layouts as I see and feel them, where rugged dunes landscapes are moulded by the natural elements.  Strong, simple but accurate to the place.
