About the Artist

Line Mortensen

Artist Statement

Line is a Danish artist based in North Berwick who creates one-off wall pieces and sculptural objects by mixing skills, materials and techniques from a wide range of art forms such as architecture, design, mosaic, ceramic and glass.

Most work is abstract to semi-abstract based upon Line’s love of form, materials, textures, colours and good craftsmanship. Her inspiration is often the materials themselves and how they are best used and presented but the natural world also influences her work.

Line has a genuine compulsion to create and aim to create work of long-lasting interest and value which reflects both her personality and unique style.

CV

Line is Danish but has lived and worked in the UK since 2001. Her background is a MSc in LandscapeAarchitecture (Copenhagen) but it was her speciality in golf course architecture and design which brought her first to England and in 2003 to Scotland when offered a Lecture and Course Coordinator job at the College of Art in Edinburgh.

Following this she ran her own golf architecture business until 2017 when she turned full-time artist.

The individuality and quality of Line’s work has given her access to exhibit and sell work both within the UK and internationally. She has exhibited with Craft Scotland in Edinburgh, London and Chicago and with British Association for Modern Mosaic in Chartres (France). She has shown work as invited artist a Tweeddale Museum in Peebles and at Pittenweem Arts Festival, Scotland.

Most of Line’s work is labour-intensive. The availability of her work is therefore limited and only exhibit/sold on few occasions each year.
