"For the forthcoming exhibition at Fidra Fine Art, I was invited to select a painting from the National Galleries of Scotland’s collection, which would inspire me to create an etching and would be the main influence behind this work.

My selected painting from the collection was “Call of the Night” by Paul Delvaux. At the time I wasn’t aware of the reason why I was drawn to this particular painting. As I began to work on my etching, I gradually became aware of the similarities in subject matter in Paul Delvaux’s painting to that of my own work, which also deals with the nude figure.

Leaves have always fascinated me and I often introduce them to my images as a gesture, which has various meanings." June Carey

W. Gordon Smith reviewed her first major solo exhibition at Glasgow Print Studio in 1993 :-

"Her presence, even in the biggest of salons in the best of company, has been signalled by one of her naked figures whose gender is often uncertain. All of this is accomplished with fastidious subtlety and skill from the prodigious source of her imagination. She allows her subconscious to dictate to her and long ago took the courageous decision to follow its instant lead without question even when some of the images she summons threaten to unnerve her’
