Donald Manson was born in Ayr in 1948. Attended Glasgow School of Art where he was taught by David Donaldson, James D Robertson, Duncan Shanks and Alexander Goudie. Awarded post graduate year in 1971.
Attended Hospitalfield College, Arbroath in 1969. The tutor for that summer was Jack Knox.
Donald Manson has exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute, Royal Scottish Academy, together with the Fine Art Society, Billcliffe Gallery, Glasgow and The Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh. He has also shown at several galleries in England and has been represented at a number of art fairs.
His work is in numerous private and corporate collections.
He paints predominately landscapes and still lifes. His landscapes are based on things seen on travel throughout the UK. He sometimes combines images and ideas to produce a single work. Donald Manson has little interest in the topographical accuracy of his subject matter. Sometimes his pictures merge still life and landscape.
He is interested in painting a moment in time whether that is depicting an ascending moon, a comet in an evening sky or a summer shower. He derives much interest in the changing seasons and associated ideas which he brings to his picture making.
