About the Artist

Oliver Brookes

I most like to paint outside, the test of the changing light and the brightness of the real world is the most exacting. But in the Scottish winter I cycle down to Edinburgh Printmakers and use their big screen presses.

I went to art school at Winchester, Bristol and the Royal College and I have been a designer and artist for forty five years.

I have lots of happy clients, my work is shown in several galleries in Edinburgh and now Fidra in Gullane.

Cycling Screenprints

The five prints on show at Fidra are from a series called 'Turn left at the Top of the Parachutes' I am working with the experiences of riding in the landscape and taking time alone to paint it. The Parachutes was the name of a cafe at the old airfield at Fenton Barns.

The background colour image is a giclee print from an original watercolour produced on 300gram matt white, slightly textured, fine art paper, acid free. Each giclee sheet then individually receives the screen printed cycling image in a limited edition of twenty five.
