Astrid Trügg

Astrid was born in the Netherlands in 1972. In 1991 she graduated from the Utrecht School of Art with a degree in painting.
Inspired by Edinburgh and the Scottish coastline, Astrid moved to Scotland in 2003 where she successfully completed a post graduate course at the Leith School of Art. In 2010 she has moved to the city of Amersfoort in the Netherlands and later to Hertfordshire and has now moved back to Scotland, where she continues to work from her studio at Coburg House Art Studios in Leith.
Astrid always had deep interest in architecture, shapes and contours of the cityscape and harbours. Later she also turned her attention to Still Life.
She chooses everyday objects attracted by their simple shapes or textures, or objects that have a reference to the seaside. These things bring back memories of her childhood, family history and travels, or have had a history that reflects this. Although she surrounds herself with these objects, she paints them from what is in her head.
By working with collage, pigments and gesso, she is able to work back into layers of paint, which create fascinating textures that reflect these interests.
