Elizabeth Reid

Elizabeth Reid was born in Leith, Edinburgh and studied under Sir William George Gillies and Sir Robin Philipson at Edinburgh College of Art from 1957 to 1961. Elizabeth then joined the teaching profession, teaching Art in Secondary Schools throughout Scotland, dispensing the encouragement she herself had lacked at School but always with the overwhelming desire to return to full time painting. This she did in 1970 when she moved to an isolated shepherd's cottage in the Borders and held her first solo exhibition in 1971 which was a great success both commercially and critically.

Elizabeth has had over thirty solo shows thoughout Great Britain and France, has regularly exhibited at The Royal Scottish Society of painting in Watercolours and The Royal Scottish Academy. Her works can be found in private collections worldwide, including that of H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh and in corporate collections which include The Royal Bank of Scotland so her paintings now hang along-side her mentors, Sir William Gillies and Sir Robin Philipson.

''Through my paintings I hope to encourage people to stop, look and listen to the natural beauty all around."
